Established in 1999, Spin UK Ltd emerged as the second subsidiary of the Spin Group. Initially, our focus was on delivering Production Engine Hot Test facilities to Automotive and Industrial Engine Manufacturers across the UK and Europe.

Through our strong relationships and exceptional engineering expertise, we have expanded our offerings to encompass customised component Test Benches and Facilities, Data Acquisition and Logging systems, Plant Condition Monitoring solutions, as well as Mechanical and Electrical Design and Manufacture services. These advancements enable us to provide tailored solutions to a wide range of projects spanning various industries.

Safety is of paramount importance in all our equipment design and supply endeavors. Our dedication to safety has been recognized globally, as we were honored with a Global Safety Award from Ford Motor Company. This prestigious accolade was in acknowledgment of our operator-free Engine Hot Test facilities, which we successfully provided and installed at their Bridgend and South African Engine Manufacturing Centers.

To further bolster our commitment to safety, we employ certified TUV SÜD Functional Safety Engineers. This certification from TUV SÜD serves as a testament to our ability to evaluate machinery against relevant industry safety standards, both for current and existing equipment.

In addition to our extensive experience in CE certification, we possess the capability to design, manufacture, and install tailored solutions for legacy equipment. This unique positioning allows Spin UK to conduct comprehensive assessments, provide detailed reports, make necessary improvements, and issue certifications to ensure that your equipment adheres to current standards and meets the requirements of your facility’s insurance.

SPIN strive to obtain three main goals in any automation process:

  • Ensure the QUALITY of production is to the highest level
  • Reduce COSTS
  • Guarantee the maximum FLEXIBILITY in the production process

Dave Wood

Dave Wood

Managing Director

I started my engineering working life as a technical apprentice with global supplier of dynamometers and test facilities in 1982, working in the electrical drawing office on the drawing board and early CAD systems, progressing into Contract Management and Commercial Sales.

I moved to Spin in 1999 – joining with my long-time working partner, embarking on an exciting new business set up with the Barcelona based Spin Group. We worked to establish our business in the automotive and industrial engine test world and have been fortunate enough to have amazing customers who have shared our journey

I took over as Managing Director in 2018, continuing to expand our company team and maintain our core work philosophies – our people are our business and our customers are our focus

My other love is the City of Worcester and promote wherever I can – I am on the Board of our local football club Worcester City FC and Chairman of the club Supporters Trust

I love my family, I enjoy my music and still jump around to my favourites bands – it is what it is!

Operations Manager

After spending my younger days travelling and doing seasonal work abroad, I finally settled in the UK and began work with an organic vegetable growing and delivery business. I worked in all aspects of the business until becoming the general manager, learning leadership and management through hard work and earning respect.

To open more doors for my career I studied accounting from home.  I moved to Spin UK who provided me with the opportunity to further my studies to achieve my full AAT qualification.  The longer I’ve stayed in the business my role has grown as has my scope of responsibility.  I became part of the team of Directors in 2018.

My role within Spin is to ensure the business runs well, to look after the finances, to ensure we look after our staff, keep providing relevant training, maintain high quality standards and to try to keep everyone smiling!

Technical Sales Engineer

I started my career as an apprentice maintenance engineer quickly recognising that I was more suited to an office environment and moved to a proposals role providing detailed proposals for wear solutions in general industry.

Technical sales engineer was my next step at the firm and eventually became a national position. My passion for the automotive industry led me to a contracts manager role and provided the challenge I was after. The role gave me the opportunity to work through the complete project cycle from enquiry stage to delivery and completion.

A change in pace was needed when personal life took over and I decided to head back to a desk as proposals engineer for a Tier 1 automotive supplier which gave me the chance to work on international, multi-million-pound proposals in turn elevating my understanding of the corporate world.

Since joining Spin UK Ltd as Technical Sales Engineer I have used my experiences to support the business in client procurement, company positioning and business development. The company continues to flourish with a strong collaborative approach, and I am excited to see what the future holds!
